Chico Palio

Chico Palio is the kickoff event for Artoberfest. The event is community based,  with “palio” referring to the Italian word of competition between neighbors. Instead of racing real horses like in the Palio di Siena in Italy, community members create and race horse sculptures made of papier-mache, recycled materials and more. It's a time for arts, culture and nonprofit organizations to come together to celebrate community and let people know what they do and how they serve our local citizenry.

 

Chico Palio has been held in Chico's Downtown Plaza for the past seven years but will move to its NEW location at One-Mile and Sycamore Field in 2012. The day's events include music, dance, art exhibits, food, activities and information about upcoming Artoberfest events.

Chico Palio’s goals include:

1. To support safe, creative opportunities for youth
2. To foster attractive and livable neighborhoods and communities
3. To provide greater access to the arts for individuals, families and communities
4. To encourage economic and community development

Ag Speed Dating

For the past two years, Butte County Economic Development Corporation has put on the "Ag Speed Dating" event where 24 producer/growers "date" 12 potential buyers. This event has been enormously successful producing 240 NEW business connections in 2012, 13 deals on the spot and dozens in the works.

Feather Fiesta Days

Feather Fiesta Days is an early May event, held in downtown Oroville - the City of Gold. It is truly a family-friendly occasion with a kiddies parade, chili cook-off, craft fair, and one of the largest one-day car shows in Northern California (put on by the Oro Dam Cruisers). Enjoy marching bands, the many museums and more! The history of this event is at least 60 years old when it goes back to the days of a regatta held on the beautiful Feather River.

Victorian Rose in Biggs Offers NEW Venue

A beautiful historic treasure in Biggs, California, is restored by Robert and Wanda Nevins and has become a venue for weddings, anniversaries, parties and more. The Victorian Rose was built by the Hastings family of Biggs. Mr. Hastings was a prominent businessman with connections to big energy companies. The home stands as a testament to the era in which it was built. Intricate details, beautiful lighting and original artwork, photographs and some furniture from the original owners remain.
