For the past two years, Butte County EDC has put on the "Ag Speed Dating" event where 24 producer/growers "date" 12 potential buyers. This event has been enormously successful producing 86 NEW business connections in 2011 and 240 NEW business connections in 2012 - a 179% increase. In 2012, 13 deals were made on the spot and dozens were reported in the works. The event is growing and will include three locations this year - Chico, Redding and Yuba City.

Ag Speed Dating Gets Upstate California's Attention

Prior to launching Ag Speed Dating in February 2011, BCEDC's Ag Innovation Committee met for two years.

Spurred on by the USDA's report - Jobs, Economic Development & Sustainable Communities in February of 2010, BCEDC began to formulate a plan. Good reports and information have been plentiful by government and other agencies and organizations. —The economy and common sense required immediate action. BCEDC decided to take a leap. Today, our model is being looked out throughout the Upstate California region, which covers a 20-county area. It will complement a much larger endeavor - Upstate California's first regional Food Expo - lead by Upstate California Economic Development Council.
